Misuse and impact on Chipotle

This is final week's activity which I will discuss misuse of social technology which company post their news that involved unethical, harmful, and illegal.

Chipotle

Chipotle is a chain of restaurant in the United States, Canada, UK, Germany and France. It was founded in 1993 by Steve Ells and its name originates from chipotle which is the Mexican Spanish name for a smoked and dried jalapeno chill peper. Chipotls's menu consist of five item which are burritos, fajita burritos, burrito bowls, tacos, quesadilla and salads.

Misuse of Twitter

   The Chipotle fake hack

As the picture above, it looks to odd and somehow their account has been hacked and the tweet strong conversation, but it was actually that Chipotle want to celebrate 20th anniversary and release the account been hacked actions, it is kind of fooling their community and also people who use social media to pay attention on what happen to their Twitter. The result of this business stunt to garnered 4000 more followers as the result of deceiving people. After their stunt business, the communications Director Chris Arnold said that "We didn't want it to be harmful or hateful or controversial, we thought that it is really fit well within the context of our 20th anniversary promotion where we were putting clues in all sorts of things. The business stunt can be unethical and reason why it is unethical that because social media is not like TV ads, it should be community driven. Garnering more followers does not mean their food is good, the way that may do with it, is to food becoming a message to customers, such as food news.

The result of fake hacked looks like they has successfully fool their community and garner 4000 more followers. There are lots of arguments that someone people may think it is fun and it didn't relate to any ethical problem, but on the other hand, other group said that Chipotle should not do that to public because of misuse of social technology as advertising strategy.

Non-tangible impact
- Amount of communities do not follow them on other social media
- Employees felt bad from blaming message

Avoid misuse of social technology in future

- Your product and service can be your message, twitter is a social technology to support your product, it is not going to be a message
- Research online resource and educate their communication department to evaluate what can you do, and cannot do.
- Stated post as company thoughts, not personal opinions

Dolls and ROI in Vamplets

Welcome to my 6 blog, I have discussed how does social technologies implement for ALDI in last blog, if you are interesting, please follow the link. Today I will discuss a bit of ROI, example of business case study for Vamplets company and how does ROI makes revenues for them.

ROI

ROI is the concept of investments that when business invest their effort on their business case and implement it to gain benefits from the investment. It is used to evaluate the efficiency of an investment or to compare the result of a number of different investments. Below it is the calculation of ROI.

Vamplets

Vamplets is a small business that base on making Vamplets dolls and introduced Facebook as their new channels to advertise their products for lead revenues. Refer to their investment of Facebook advertising, they spend $250 on Facebook advertising monthly and produce extra $1000 sale revenues per month. When we calculate the amount of their investment with additional gain from investment, it can be very worth as 300% return back. This is positive return on their investment, and if they are going to begin other platforms with similar strategies for their ads and set up their fans page to release their news by click following, like, share, and hash tag by visitors, the ROI of their business will be able to grow bigger by doing so and huge revenue each year as well.

                                                            (1000 - 250)
                                        300% =  ------------------------   X 100
                                                                   250

Tangible

It is obviously that ROI evaluate the business revenue and the company itself operates more efficient to spread out their brand and also reputation. Moreover, when the rate of visibility grows to public, it assists its trademarks to gain more people known its product, and selling dolls to kids or young adult.

1. Reduce cost
2. Revenue increase
3. Public visibility and known

Intangible benefits

It is quite hard and measures the benefits for internal company, but it is able to forest that employees will be able to stay longer in the company because of increasing the revenues, staff will be confidence to their brand. It could be a kind of psychology thinking when the number of profits you seen, the effort of your work will be valuable as their mind.

Weakness and Strength

Base on the business case study which I mention above is quite obviously for company to gain such huge revenues; even Vamplets is a small business to gain additional profits. For the weakness, they should start this kind of advertising in other website or social technologies, not just in Facebook, there are lots of social technologies, such as Twitter and Instagram. On the other hand, it is a great for small business growth to return on investment (ROI) and also evaluate the possibility of increasing the visibility for their trade marker.

Innovation of social technologies has influenced the way that retail sector process their business for customer interact, and advertising. This is interesting that social technologies affected a board range of business procedure and retail sector has also relied on it to get more profits. In this blog, I will discuss an organization in retail sector and how does social technologies impact it.

ALDI

ALDI is one of the supermarket chains in Australia, but it was founded in Germany since 1946. ALDI is leading global discount retail which selling wide range of cheap product, such as food, beverages, and other inexpensive items. They supplies as much as cheapest product of highest possible quality and most of products are homemade within maximum 2 items from other brand.

Why ALDI's product get cheaper than other supermarket ?

Lean production

     - reduce the resource used in providing products
     - less labour for customer services
sometimes one person in counter per store
     - less material
plastic bags no provide, customer need to pay for bag or own bag carry

All of the concepts above, aldi reduce cost for their business and these saving is return to its customer to offer value for money as well.

Social technologies

Back to topic, ALDI has implemented the social technologies that other organization does, such as, Facebook, Google+, YouTube and Twitter. There are some example of using McKinsey value levers with social technologies clearly.

Leverage social to forecast and monitor

Aldi acquire the customer thought by accessing the social technologies from their comments and respond to the consumers for their expectation. Also, it is one of the tactic that Aldi operate their retail business and customer loyalty. Provided wide range of customer thoughts and leverage the desire to run their activities for long term and short term in social technologies. Moreover, it has the chances to receive the similar information and recreate other new benefits for customer. As other customer comments, they wish a kind of product return to their store and the amount of people click likes will be a significant concept for decision making.

Generate and foster sales leads

The traditional strategies that Aldi does in their attraction post for getting more volunteers to join  celebrating by providing communities a chance to win money and as much as volunteers involved, they will have a chance to get more customer as they advertise the activities as daily post or annually in social technologies used.

Week4 - How does Adidas implement enterprise 2.0?

This week topic is the benefits and value associated with implementing enterprise 2.0 by using 10 social technology value levers from McKinsley Global Insititute in 2012.I would like to discuss how Adidas implement enterprise 2.0.

Adidas is a multinational corporation that designs and manufactures sports shoes, clothing and other sport equips. And how did Adidas implement Enterprise 2.0?

Firstly, adidas uses social media to create value for social commerce. Facebook has been used in adidas as an advertising site that introduces a great product or the product that will be released recently for users to tag them in their profile. It has enhanced the ability that spread out message by social  technologies when their communities are like the product for user self’s experience and also it is efficient for distribute the information to target customer and get them back as quick as information post.

Also, market research has demonstrated that customer insight for them to look at famous athletes. For example, there are several basketball player in NBA, they were incorporated with adidas to sell their self-brand shoes and designed by adidas with the brand mark on it for both customer favorite and reputation that advertising around customer who like a specific player.

As Adidas cares that how does our customer feel and think their goods. This comes out a way that adidas get close with users by recruit a player or multiple player for a real testing on their use experience for how can be more efficiently when they in the game. Being very close to the athletes will be also applied with customers, it is how adidas cares their customer feeling and giving player every edge at top of their game to makes a real difference.

Have a look on the video that show adidas innovations.

Thank you for reading
